Sea World San Diego

Today's Travels in Moby, brings us to a very popular tourist attraction in San Diego, CA, called Sea World.  Sea World is a great place to get a good sample of marine life and entertainment such as shows and rides.  Get here at 9 AM when it opens because it will take almost all of your day.

The wife and I actually downloaded the show schedule and the park map and figured out a game plan where we could see all the shows and not have to walk too far back and forth between them.  Since this was Xmas time, they had a special Shamu Xmas show in the evenings but that one only has two shows and you want to get there about 30 min early because of the holidays and crowds.  Sea World is known to cut off the lines early if they hit capacity and we didn't want that to happen.

They also have rides but about half of them have water involved and in the cooler winter month of December, we decided to skip these.  Even with skipping those rides, we barely finished up the park with about an hour to spare.  In the evenings, the lines to many of the rides because very long.  We did stick it out for the Sky Tram and the Manta roller coaster, both taking at least 30 to 40 min of waiting in line.

However, rides really shouldn't really be a priority here at Sea World so we were ok with missing all the water ones.

We did manage to make all the shows but one.  The 4-D Polar Express movie theater had technical difficulties and it was cutting our timeline short for a better show that involved the park's animals, so we decided that after 15 min of waiting for the theater to get their act together, we walked up and left.  It was a good choice too as it was the last showing of the Clyde and Seamore Save Christmas show and it was pretty full. In fact, it looked like they cut the line early before the show started, so we definitely would not have made it if we hung around for the 4D Polar Express Show.

I also want to state that the park isn't only about killer whales and dolphins or even the other sea life like turtles, sharks, penguins, sea otters, sea lions, starfish, etc.  They also have dogs, cats, birds, pigs, horses, reptiles, etc.  However, the main sites are sea related.

I highly recommend going to Sea World once in your life as they shows are quite impressive and may even get to interact with a whale or dolphin.

Riding the SkyTower

The SkyTower offers 360 degree views of the San Diego Harbor and beautiful sunsets.  It also doubles as a giant Xmas tree which would explain the lights in this panorama.
